Jian became the host of CBC Radio One’s Q in the spring of 2007. Just two years later, Q had become the all-time highest-rated program in the 10 a.m. time slot in the network’s history. Q is a broad-minded program that covers pop culture and high arts, with forays into the most provocative and compelling cultural trends of our time in Canada and beyond. Jian was also a regular contributor to the CBC television program The Hour, and in 2006 he hosted The End, a three-part documentary which aired on CBC Newsworld, about the prospective demise of conventional radio, TV & print medias. To watch these episodes, please visit The End site.
In 2004, Jian hosted 50 Tracks on CBC Radio One. The daily program compiled a list of the 50 most important musical recordings in history with the help of a panel of pundits. Starting in 2002, Jian hosted the CBC television program >Play for three years. >Play was a one-hour live, on-location talk show covering arts, entertainment and pop culture. The show aired weekly on CBC Newsworld and Newsworld International, and also evolved into a number of special documentaries including Screw The Vote and >Play Goes To Pot.
